Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur are set to play in the upcoming Irani Cup match between Mumbai and the Rest of India. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is yet to announce its full squad for the annual fixture, scheduled to take place in Lucknow from October 1 to 5. Ajinkya Rahane, who captained Mumbai to their record 42nd Ranji Trophy victory last season earlier this year, will lead the side.Shardul’s availability comes as a welcome boost for Mumbai, strengthening their bowling and batting departments. The India all-rounder has been sidelined since undergoing ankle surgery in June. He recently participated in the KSCA tournament, and according to a top MCA official, he has made himself available for the five-day first-class fixture. The MCA is expected to announce the squad on Tuesday.Iyer, who is striving for an international comeback after missing out on selection for the Indian team for the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh, will feature in the prestigious annual domestic fixture between the current Ranji champions and the Rest of India.Iyer, who last played an international match in an ODI against Sri Lanka, recently captained India D in the just-concluded Duleep Trophy.
